Bibi van der Velden and Auverture have come together to stage an exhibition that celebrates nature’s transient, fragile beauty.
This weekend-long show will take place at Bibi’s light-filled Amsterdam studio, where she will debut her Memento Mori collection that explores the fragility of nature through precious materials. This opulent collection is inspired by the grotesque and the beautiful in the still life paintings of the Dutch Golden Age, and draws on the way in which these works would contrast natural beauty and its inevitable decay.
As debuted at Couture, the collection’s bold designs spotlight flamboyant tulips and leaves in 18k yellow gold and rock crystal, such as one tulip ring that almost spans the hand. These regal blooms are grounded by ants, caterpillars, and maggots that nibble on their beautiful forms, as a poignant reminder of mortality.
As a backdrop to the Bibi van der Velden and Auverture designers’ jewels, a floral ode to Mother Nature has been sculpted to amplify the idea of nature’s decay and rebirth. The artworks are composed of the most beautiful natural and abstract materials and placed carefully amidst the jewels.
Pay a visit to Bibi’s studio to experience an immersive journey that invites you to explore the fragility of nature and fine jewellery. We are open from 13-17 June from 11:00 – 19:00. To book an appointment please click here.
